I’ve been a business support professional in one form or another for over 25 years. To say that I’ve seen the PA role change dramatically is a huge understatement. From manual typewriter to touchscreen technology - my 22 year old self could not have dreamed that such things were possible.
Having started my career as an administrative assistant in the Court Service, I then moved into legal secretarial work. After several years as a legal PA and secretarial team leader, I needed a change of direction and a new challenge so joined PwC in 2007. I support 4 partners and directors in the People & Organisation team in the Manchester office. As well as the usual diary and stakeholder management, my responsibilities include client event management for P&O industry seminars & dinners.
My proudest work achievement this year is supporting the #ThisIsMeNW initiative, whose objective is two-fold – firstly, to raise awareness and start to change attitudes towards mental health across the North West, and secondly, to secure engagement and collaboration from major employers across the North West business community.
Outside the day job, I was honoured to be invited to join the Manchester PA Network board. I’m very proud to have been a member of the Network since it launched in 2011 and was named Network Ambassador in 2015 & 2017. Since 2017, along with Tracey Williams, Debbie Grimshaw, Emma Glyn-Jones and Amanda Mosscrop, I’ve organised & hosted the New Members events on behalf of the Network.
Although I’m an avid networker, outside work I’m essentially a homebody and enjoy spending time with my partner Paul, large extended family, friends & my two dogs, Elli & Murphy. I love trying out new recipes at home (I have an entire bookcase full of cookbooks - Lorraine Pascal and Simon Wood being particular favourites) or eating out at the many new openings on the Manchester restaurant scene.
I’m committed to helping the Network hit their fundraising target of £100,000 by 2020 for The Christie charity. After recently completing the Night of Neon, my next challenge, with the rest of the ExCo, is a tandem skydive in 2019.
